The pitch is still batting-friendly and this is Sri Lanka’s best chance to bat big. Will they? That’s the big question. Join us tomorrow to find that out. Until then, goodbye!
The Sri Lankans were reluctant to bowl citing air pollution which involved stoppages in play. That forced Kohli to declare and his new ball bowlers had their tails up. They removed two quick wickets before tea and thereby reducing the visitors to 14-2. Ishant and Shami continued to bowl in the right areas in the final session and deserved some more in the wickets column. But that wasn’t the case – courtesy two drop catches in the cordon by Dhawan and Kohli. Dilruwan, forced to open the innings, did hang around for a long time before he was trapped by Jaddu. Mathews and Chandimal survived the last 155 balls and made it to the stumps with an unbeaten 56-run stand. The former was in all sorts of trouble early in his innings. Plays and misses, a drop and struggling for timing. He is still unscathed and that’s what the Islanders want.
An eventful day of Test cricket. Smog, masks, players down with sickness, manager/coach making it into the field, an angry declaration and finally fading light. But, Virat Kohli’s double century tops them all. What a knock that was from the Indian captain. He continued from where he left yesterday to bring up his sixth double-ton (six in 17 months). Rohit Sharma gave him good company and together they punished a mediocre Sri Lankan bowling in the morning session. Rohit, in the two innings, has a century and a fifty against his name. Has he booked his place in the playing XI for the South Africa series? He perished just before lunch and the drama started to unfold after the break.
